RE: Show and tell

I don't like the concept of converting back and forth from a to d and back to a unneccessarily.

Having said that, there is truly phenomenal potential with DSP. For example puffin is constantly updating the DSP programming to handle more sophisticated processing and treatments.

But do we really want to have ever dern device in our signal path converting back and forth between analog and digital, umpteen times until the signal hits the speakers?

Wouldn't there be undersirable consequences to transients, harmonics, etc.?

This kind of reminds me of the late 70s, early 80s NFB wars. Especially - but not only - the japanese manufacturers were applying more and more global NFB to their circuits in order to improve certain specs. But it is generally acknowledged now that in the process they stomped the life out of the music.
