RE: Interesting....

Maybe I will find some removable stickers to place on the disc labels to indicate which I have digitized. I would rather not permanently mark up disc or jackets. I plan to donate the collection at some point.

I did buy a relatively inexpensive Ultrasonic cleaning machine today from Amazon. It has mostly 5 star reviews - we'll see. And one of those sticky goop stylus cleaners. Will use distilled water with a small amount of iso alcohol for lowering surface tension.

I will end up for the first 20 or 30 rips using the musical fidelity phono preamp and recording to DSD. I just hear less grain - especially in loudest vocal passages - from DSD.

And I don't trust the mic inputs on the KORG MR-1 to have clean enough gain at the level I would need in order to be able to record direct cartridge output.
Officially the mic inputs only 10K ohm impedance which is not adequate for MM cartiridge to have best response, although I have read that the mic input impedance is closer to 100K which would be fine for my Grado MM cart.

I can always encode down to 24x192 at any time if I absolutely need to do any post processing. I don't know for sure but I guess that would be lossy down encoding but no worse in bitrate or resolution as if I had recorded at 192 originally.

And I want to avoid normalization if possible - can't anyway in DSD so would have to down convert - or record- to PCM if I feel later on that is beneficial.

One other advantage to using the Musical Fidelity preamp is that I can have the preamp volume control in the signal path, and use it to avoid any risk of overloading the input preamps, which I have heard is a real risk and isn't prevented with simply limiting record level in the recorder (too late in the signal path).
