First attempt at digitizing is encouraging

Long delayed project is underway to digitize my 500+ LPs and first test is very encouraging.

Equipment is:

Using battery power to ooperate the KORG. Encountered hum when using a cheap switching wall wart.
NOT using a phono preamp. I have connected the RCA out cables from the table directly to the line in of the MR1. The level is very low so I am applying 12db(!) gain during the recording (the MR1 has this ability).

Even with the 12db recording gain, when I transfer the wave file to Audacity on the PC I need to apply volume "normalization", and I am applying the RIAA curve in digital domain from within Audacity.

Sounds pretty damn good! I do have a couple phone preamps to try- a Musical Fidelty and I think a CREEK.

I will try increasing the recoring level gain, maybe I can avoid phone preamp. But 12db recording gain already seems high to me.

Here is a screen shot from Audacity after the RIAA curve and volume normalization is applied. You can see the needle drop at 4 seconds in.

It sounds quite good as is but I can probably improve. My 15 year old son tells me it sounds a bit "hot" to him. But he is accustomed to crap MP3s from spotify, and of course he has much better hearing. Last time we tested him he could hear to above 15khz.
