The skating force is due to the friction created between stylus tip and the groove. As such, it is not only a product of diamond sliding on vinyl but also of the contact patch between stylus and groove and of the tortuosity of the groove itself (coupled with VTF of course). A grooveless LP does not mimic any of the latter contributing factors.
