I was a recruiter in the Los Angeles area. Within a 20 minute drive there were about 10 used music stores.
I read about Rush being such a great power trio and although I wasn't a fan, I did like a couple songs. So I bought a record whenever I came across a cheap one in good quality, or imports and whatnot.
I worked about 70 hours a week for three years so I didn't have much time for listening to music, but I bought a ton of used LPs thinking I'd have time at some point when my time there was up.
I've dragged thousands of records around with me ever since.
Didn't help that record shopping was my drug of choice. Whenever I was flipping through used records, my mind escaped the world. And when I saw a pristine copy of a record I wanted, it was like a "high."
