Thanks Anthony.
My old phono preamp was a tubed AES PH-1. In anticipation of going to a mc cartridge, I picked up a used PS Audio GCPH for a good price. It arrived yesterday, and I've been listening to it with the AT150mlx. It is fuller sounding and more detailed than the tube preamp. However, it is more forward sounding and--at this point anyway--it can sound moderately aggressive. I'm currently listening to Lightning Hopkins and it sounds great. Early I listened to some Prokofiev orchestral and it sounded aggressive on the top end.
I'm thinking--maybe--that microline stylus that the AT33PGT shares with the AT150MLX might be a culprit? I don't know.
I understand what you are saying about the poorer value of the Hana SL, but am attracted--maybe foolishly--by the good reviews and descriptions of warmth of the Hana SL. It isn't that I necessarily want a Shibata stylus. I've read that they are fussier about set up and alignment, and though I install my own cartridges usually, I'm no pro at it.
