I think the preamp is active since it's an Audio Research LS17 with 12/18dB of gain depending on whether the balanced or SE output is used. I'm using the balanced input.
I'm wondering if the cartridge is defective in some way.
Is it possible that a cartridge can otherwise play music, but at a much lower output than it's supposed to put out?
