You're right to be curious. I still remember the first time I ever heard a Decca Mark V many years ago. It was a sound to die for and had dynamics, presence, and "air" that was unmatched.
I used Decca cartridges (Mark V and VI "Gold") for more than a decade afterwards, but they were always a love hate relationship. Decca's QC was erratic. The Gold's "cantilever" was very short and could bottom out on minor warps. A higher VTF is implicit by design and they preferred unipivot, medium or higher mass tonearms.
I understand the quality may be better now. They're a little pricey. I'm always tempted to try one. Maybe you should too?
