then I calculate 62db of gain on an 0.3mV signal (keeping also in mind that the actual music output will be typically a bit better than that, especially on transients) gives a net Vout = 377mV. If the amplifier is relatively sensitive, that should be at least OK. I am using the near same cartridge (Dynavector 17D3) with the same output, with a Manley Steelhead set at 65db total gain, and the attenuator is never farther over than about 50% or 60% fully open, with my particular amp and speakers.
