I do not disagree with you. As I attempted to emphasize, I just wanted to point out that there is another school of thought. And I don't think you play records with two tonearms where one is hooked up to a 'scope, or whatever they used to demonstrate resonant behavior in the vinyl. That was my point. It's about as meaningful to me as banging on your plinth while playing an LP to demonstrate immunity from.... banging on your plinth. There is an old joke where a guy says he went to his doctor and asked him what to do; his elbow hurt every time he made a certain awkward gesture, which he demonstrated to the doctor. The doctor advised him not to "go like that".
I guess the underlying point is that it's possible SQ is more like "real" live music, when we don't dampen the LP so thoroughly. I really don't know. Or how about the notion that when you dampen the resonance of the LP very effectively, the energy that gives rise to resonant waves is fed back to the stylus tip, which might not be beneficial. (I don't believe this, just for discussion.)
As you know, there are as many different kinds of LP mats almost as there are vinylphiles. Everyone has his own preference, and some don't even like the idea of vacuum hold down, for whatever their particular reasons.
