I'll just be a devil's advocate here. The fact that the Micro Seiki test gave the results described does not prove that LPs can't sound excellent enough to satisfy a discerning listener, without vacuum hold down. The M-S test itself is not a representation of how we play records. There is a school of thought that favors elevating the LP off the platter surface. (I don't subscribe to that belief, just pointing it out.) I think it was TT Weights, the now defunct Canadian company, that used to market a "Resomat", a mat with small rubber points on its surface to hold the LP aloft. It still has some fans.
Back in the day, I had a Transcriptors Reference TT. Didn't care for it much, but the looks were great.
