What makes you think that the ICs are responsible for hum, with an SUT?

So, if you start with an MM phono stage and a pair of ICs that in combination do not exhibit hum, and then if you add an SUT to the equation and experience hum, I would not blame the problem on the ICs as my first choice. Of course, any pair of ICs with a broken or intermittent ground connection could induce hum, SUT or no SUT.
