I wouldn't worry about the long break-in period, as it is very listenable even during the break-in. YMMV of course.
PS-1 is a versatile phono stage - lots of load options that can be accessed without tearing it apart. It can be used with MM or MC cartridges (has 4 different level gains), and the only concern is that the maximum gain is 53dB which is only moderate for low output MC cartridges. I was worried about the same thing after ordering a dynavector karat 17d2 mk.II cartridge, which has 0.2mV output. It turns out that my tube amp was quiet enough so that I could turn up the volume pot to 2-3 o'clock, which gives me a decent listening level without hearing any noise at all.
