I recently upgraded both my phono stage (Parasound JC 3 Jr) and DAC (PS Audio Stellar Gain Cell DAC/preamp, with digital being fed via S/DPIF from an Elac Discovery music server. While my Pro-Ject Xtension 10/Denon DL-301 II is still my preferred way to listen to music, the PS has really upped the ante with my ripped CD's with a much fuller, less flat soundstage and with noticeably less edgy highs. So much of digital sounding decent is mastering dependent, though. My music server's Roon software has a "radio" feature that plays other tracks in your library from the same genre-Elton John's The Bitch is Back came on the other day at a level much higher than the album, and the big instrumental break with horns were so bright it was almost painful. Got out my U.K. DJM pressing of Caribou and played the same track and it was SO much easier and the ears.
Great system, BTW. I'm looking at the Treo CT's as a 60th birthday present to myself next year, which will replace my 2ce Sig II's. That carbon tweeter is really something special.
