I seem to recall some positive subjective impressions here and there across the net back when these mods were more popular. I think there has always been plenty of skepticism.
I don't remember exactly when I did the mods on mine it was quite a while ago. I don't recall having noted much difference before and after but I also really didn't pay much attention since I figured it wasn't going to hurt anything. I recall my liking how it sounded afterward. Since I liked it before hand too I was never convinced it was a big change if any at all.
That was back in the day before I got into trying to make digital playback captures to try and make comparisons with.
