Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

You're just buying a name...

The new Thorens turntable weighs only 12-kg, which is 0.5-kg less than my Technics SL-1200 mk2. I think the new Thorens is probably way over priced like most turntables these days.

If you want to spend that kind of money for a turntable, you can buy some real quality in the Sota Millennia Vacuum, which has a price tag of $10,500 without tonearm. I've had mine since 2003 and it's still running like new. Furthermore, the vacuum platter really minimizes groove noise. The Sota Millennia Vacuum is exceedingly quiet. I think all turntables are over priced these days, but at least you get some real quality and performance for your money with Sota.

Best regards,
John Elison

PS. I played a Thorens TD-126 for 20-years before upgrading to my Sota Millennia Vacuum .
