I'm thankful for early Grateful Dead studio LP's!

Aoxomoxoa 1968-ish. Listening to studio 'Saint Stephen' and 'Dupree's Diamond Blues' -so excellent- recorded with minimal production- preserving that great loose, ramblin' stage presence they had in the early days. Jeez, Pigpen could sing!

The sound is as if they set up and just played - although Tom Constanten said in the book "Skeleton Key" that at Pacific Recording in San Mateo "...the availability of a 16-track studio offered much more room to play with the ideas in their collective head. The-mix down became a performance in its own right, with three or more pairs of hands on the soundboard, minding their cues." Warms my heart to think of it.
