[Epic BN2625, 1970] Jeez, I love a great hook! 'Be Free' with the soul-strum and the B3 entering on the downbeat in the second measure-- it's what classic rock is all for.
The Zombies just refused to die, ironically. But the cats who formed Argent seem to have peaked young, then catapulted themselves into relative obscurity. They left us this fine, fine piece of music- beautifully composed. Not to belittle Rod Argent's later, highly intense B3 solo on 'Hold Your Head Up.'
It possesses that classic British pop sound that hit its stride around '70, co-evolving with the great all-tube 4-track mixing gear at Abbey Road Studios, the sound everyone was trying to achieve.
