A Bridge Too Far?

Audio MusiKraft Denon DL-103 tunable phonograph cartridge... The first word describing this design that hit me was "overkill." But the phrase "A Bridge Too Far" is just right: an act or plan whose ambition overreaches its capability, leading to difficulty or failure.

The basic idea starts off interesting- a variety of materials for interchangeable bodies. But it goes nuts from there... The notion of tightening screws to somehow pre-stress the metal cartridge body, which presumably causes strains on the cartridge mounted therein, seems pretty unhealthy for the cartridge. Then I saw the little flakes of different species of wood that can be inserted in the sides. THEN- you fine-tune the wood flakes with furniture polish! I firmly believe these actions are roughly equivalent to placing little stones on your amplifier cabinets. i.e. pure woo-woo.

Their prices for the basic units aren't too crazy: $300 for A DL103, $50 to mod it for insertion into their body, $250 or so for the basic body. All in, it runs $600 bux. The little woodchip-holder variants run around around grand though. I hope someone pops for one so we can see a review.
