It has happened to me, and I traced the "source" to the littlest thing- somehow the plinth of my big Denon DD had gotten shoved over and was making contact with my equipment rack. Shoved it back 1/16" and the "pumping" stopped. I assume it was coupling the arm-cartridge resonant system to a big acoustical pickup surface (the shelf side) and any trigger initiated a soundfield at an inaudible single-digit Hz frequency that fed back to the pickup. Am I off base (or off-bass!)?
