RE: Goodwill find....

You've got a winner there, if the speed's stable. Let it run overnight and see how it is when you wake up. That tonearm is pretty nice but might not make an ADC XLM-ii the best choice, since they sing only in a low effective-mass arm.

Nevertheless, that's a highly desirable cartridge that you can put on a new stylus, sell online for the price you paid for the stylus + table, and - hey- free turntable! Check the coils are both good with your ohmmeter before jumping in. Should be round IIRC 500 ohms- I got an open one from an eBay guy once. Having recently mixed-n'-matched a few of these I found the best most reliable source of replacement styli was "The Voice of Music" in Michigan. Good intelligent advice, fair prices, easy exchanges.

Let us know what cart you choose and how it sounds.

If I was pickin'- I might pick a nice, economical A-T 95e, not wanting to over-match the performance envelope of the table by spending too much on the cart. The AT 95e offers extraordinary price/performance (I spent the extra $10 to get the all-black one from "LP Gear"- the green plastic made me woozy).
