As my hearing loss becomes more of a problem for me, I find I enjoy headphone listening much more. At least I can get away from all external noise and get it loud enough to actually hear. I have upper Sennheisers and can sure hear and appreciate their performance.I assume you have an "audiogram" or some hearing test result that plots out your hearing loss vs. frequency. That's only one sense of hearing loss, it neglects intelligibility, ringing, etc. but it seems a major aspect.
It appears possible to compensate for that frequency-dependent aspect of hearing loss with what amounts to a equalizer. There is a computer "app" that does this automatically- they say: " The first time you use it, [the app] runs a test on your hearing, then it calculates an equalizer setting that will compensate for your hearing deficiencies." Pretty cool- I saw in an article in "Sound And Vision" magazine- link below. There are probably others. Bose is doing something similar too, research it. I want one! Maybe when they get better, Sennheiser will sell one and it will be musically excellent.
On your TT issue, If you love your B&O and it's in good shape, get the Soundsmith retip and be happy. Any other path (like the U Turn, say) is going to run about the same $ and you lose the B&O's chic industrial design. I don't think you're fishing for dramatic improvement in cost/performance and your B&O is probably "enough" in terms of resolution for your setup.
Regarding 'vintage' turntables, I fix 'em up and sell them to friends and I haven't sold anything less than around $150, all spiffed up, with a decent cart. Get below that and you're getting into the junk recycling end of things, unless you get real, real lucky...
