It's not loose. I have an RX-2 with that feature and like it. I use the $200 SoundSmith SMMC-4 cartridge. I've got a new one from SS to replace the one inmate olddude55 graciously gave me when I scored the deck for $25 off eBay. I like the automatic operation and the deck sounds just fine to my 71- year-old ex-military ears.
