Hi Brian,
I agree with you. However, some sight-line protractors also have two alignment grids. The Turntable Basics protractor has a sight-line and also two alignment null-points.
My favorite type of protractor is an arc protractor with two alignment grids. Conrad Hoffman developed an excellent program that prints custom arc protractors. It requires inputs of mounting distance and innermost and outermost modulated groove radii. It also has X/Y adjustment factors to compensate for printer inaccuracy. You can use Conrad Hoffman's program to make an arc protractor for any length tonearm and any two null-points. I always print mine on 120-lb paper and I adjust the X/Y factors for very high accuracy. If you're not familiar with his arc protractor printing program, you might want to check it out at the link below the picture. It's freeware!
