RE: John, I can perfectly align the Kenwood tonearm on the two grids

I guess I don't understand why you are so insistent that one protractor works when we both know that can't possibly be true. It should be obvious to you that you are incorrectly aligning the cartridge with the protractor that you believe works properly. Either that or the protractor does not have null-points of 66-mm and 120.9-mm! You can't have it both ways. It's mathematically and geometrically impossible for a tonearm with effective length of 215-mm and overhang of 9.5-mm to have null-points of 66-mm and 120.9-mm. Do you doubt the math?

This is actually a good learning experience for you. It demonstrates how easy it is to incorrectly align a phono cartridge with a so called "dumb" two-point protractor and why you need either a sight-line or an arc to do the job properly. Personally, I believe that arc protractors are the most reliable and least fallible of all types of protractors.

Good luck,
John Elison
