What's EdA say?

My experience has been with the DL-103D for many years, and it was pretty great sounding cart (superior to the base DL-103). It took a lot of additional dollars to get better performance, suggesting it was in a sweet-spot in the cost performance curve. Excellent resolution, good octave-to-octave balance, great tracker-- maybe not the last word in inner detail but I'd say it was 'acceptable' in that arena.

EdA has explored the refitting of the Denons extensively- and there is a whole world to explore. It seems that the modders often start with good- sounding, well-made baselines to apply their magic. The drawback is you're buying a bit of a pig-in-a-poke, since you have little or no opportunity to return a modified piece of gear, if the mods are not exactly euphonic!

I quite liked the Denon PCL-5 all magnesium headshell- it was a synergetic combination, made for each other, as it were. These are getting expensive any more though. I'm not a fan of the Orosonic for a low-compliance MC, unless there was some drastic alignment problem it helped with.
