RE: I'll bite...

I guess you must have sold the Walker. Otherwise, you could use the RoadRunner to find out how accurate the Walker was. Of course, if you adjusted platter speed using a strobe, then I would think the Walker would be very accurate.

In order to actually hear an audible improvement with the Phoenix Engineering products, there must have be something seriously wrong with the Walker. It's unlikely you will hear a difference when using a speed controller unless something is seriously wrong to begin with. On the other hand, you might hear an improvement if you have perfect pitch. ;-)

When I replaced the stepper motor on my Sota Millennia with a three-phase motor and controller, I thought I heard an improvement in the noise floor. It might have been my imagination, but I felt that groove noise was audibly less noticeable. There is no question that the three-phase motor is quieter than the original stepper motor, which always made a little noise when I was close to the turntable. The three phase motor is dead quiet and it starts up silently, too. The stepper motor always caused the belt to slip and groan on startup, but the Condor PSU motor controller ramps up the speed over a two or three second time frame to relieve stress on the belt.

It's also nice to see the tachometer readout and know the speed is right on the money.
