I think Emotiva has a fine degree of sensitivity to 2-channel listeners, what with phono preamps and such in their stable, but this seems REALLY SILLY! 16 channels of what, for why?
16 speakers spread all around the room, screwed to the ceiling, the walls, under the sofa, strapped to the dog (wireless) -- how far can these go in turning a home into a realistic simulation of the outdoors, or some big space? My experiments suggest that complex multichannel rigs sound phony, bordering on goofy. Also, in my personal experience, the average customer for "Home Theater" gear often fails to install it and get it adjusted to deliver even a fraction of the potential performance. It smells **almost** like a scam to make you buy more/new electronics and speakers every year!
Very few home theater rigs I've heard sound respectable playing records. If it can't play clean music and make it sound nice, it has problems... It's a question of design intent- my (2) Thiels were designed when basically all there was to listen to were stereo LP's, mixed and mastered in stereo. The way the Creator (Alan Blumlein) intended, I say! Is your experience different?
