I think you should troubleshoot the problem to determine why the tracking force is not consistent. Perhaps you have bearing problems or perhaps the wire is twisted and causing problems.
I would balance the tonearm so the stylus floats above the surface of the record and check for bearing friction or something else causing the tonearm to hangup. My guess is that wire loop coming out the top of the tonearm might be causing problems.
Anyway, I would correct the problem before deciding on buying another tonearm or another turntable. Then, if you decide you need something new, I would check out VPI turntables at Bob's Devices to see if anything fits your budget. The VPI Scout and the VPI Prime look pretty cool. I have a couple of friends who own the Prime and it sounds very nice to me.
