RE: How are the LP Gear brand stylus compared to originals?

You're not likely to find many big fans for aftermarket styli in VA... many complaint about poor quality control prevail. Having purchased 3 aftermarket styli this year, two from The Voice of Music and one from Turntableneedles, these all fell about where I expected in terms of performance, with the exception of a Pickering 'Stereohedron" stylus, which is excellent sounding. I was lucky.

I read to the end-o'-the-internet about replacement styli before I purchased these 3 and came away with the upshot that aftermarket styli for 70-80's vintage carts are all made by one, or perhaps two, manufacturers in Japan. I can't quite tell "Jico" from "EVG" from "Phanstiel" Some of these makers may have been the ones who built certain OEM styli so the claim that these are "original" styli may have a grain of truth... You can buy direct from Jico, who seem to have a good overall reputation, link below. It's an interesting reference.

LPGear has a very slick looking catalog and some unique offerings, but I assume they are buying their styli from the same sources. But its all hit or miss, in realistic terms. I'd choose a established seller like LPGear if they have return privileges, in case you get a lemon. I can't say enough good stuff about The Voice of Music- Gary there is an honest dealer with deep experience and honest advice. Also, it's probably best to avoid any "vintage" or used styli. Just my 2-cents.
