In October 2010, having been unable to find any tickets in the secondary markets, we decided to try our luck at the door for a casino show in our area. The ticket window agent asked we were club members, I replied no but signed up on the spot. He said come back & see him 30 minutes before showtime. We grabbed a bite at the r staurant & showed up at the appointed time & got his attention. 2 minutes before the show, he motioned us over & we were escorted to front row center seats, literally just as Glen was beginning to sing Gentle on my Mind. During the show, he noticed me mouthing the lyrics to all the songs, and leaned the microphone over to me for a verse of Rhinestone Cowboy. I've been fortunate to attend many concerts in my life, but this moment will always be special to me.
What a career-ace session axeman who played on some of the greatest records ever made made, and one of the greatest singers ever. For me, his recordings of the songs of Jimmy Webb are high art, on the level of Ella Fitzgerald singing Cole Porter, or Sinatra singing Sammy Cahn or Frank Loesser.
