McMaster-Carr catalog yields new extra counterweight

My Sony PS-X50 tonearm counterweight couldn't quite balance my heavy (aluminum body) Dynavector XX-1 cart and there was no mention of an extra weigh in the user's- or service manuals. I measured the opening in the back of the counterweight carrier and found it was 0.509" x .5" deep. I got this little slug of brass .500" diameter x 3/4" long from the McMaster-Carr industrial supply catalog, after trying some solder wire to determine that I need an extra 15-20 gms of counterweight. The little slug came in exactly the right size; the weight was a little lower than I calculated but brass has some natural variation. Perfetto!

It's in there with a little double-sided tape now but I'll put a tiny fillet of silicone on it. It has to be removable if the weight has to come off, but strong enough to keep it from slipping around or rattling.

These spacers come in many sizes and there are numerous other steel and brass spacers, studs, stops, knobs, odd washers, and the like in McMaster Carr. Its worth a look before you go to the machine shop.
