You can appreciate the way her depth and style had grown so rapidly from the sweet, simple songs of "Ladies of the Canyon," hitting some sort of jazzy peak around "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter." That excellent LP was the point where I stopped buying every new disc. Arguably, not every album was as outstanding musically start-to-finish, after that.
Also factor in that "Dog Eat Dog" or maybe "Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm" were around the last albums widely available in vinyl, and those early CD's/players sounded pretty awful rendering quiet vocal music, at least to these Bear-ears.
