Thanks to inmate "bare" (from the Bear) for the idea to check the RC Model shop for silicone shock-absorber and differential gearbox fluids. I actually ended up ordering on Amazon getting a little kit for about $6 bux that contained 600-, 50,000-, and 300,000cSt (Centistokes, a measure of viscosity) plus a tiny jar of some very slippery grease.First try was mixing about equal parts of 50,000 and 300,000 (by eye) yields something around the average of 175,000 cSt I suppose. Too thin. I'm running straight 300,000 now. It's very gluey and hard to mess with, but my cueing damping seems back in business! We'll see if it lasts.
Now my turntable is a Sony/Nitro PS/GTX-50/300000 (...making motor noises with lips...) Note: see the earlier posts for the weird damping mechanism, I don't know if these comments apply to more common cylinder damping pistons but you can vary the mixture and experiment till you get the right viscosity.
