One thing that can cause a stumbling block in comparison is the difference between distortion and accuracy. There is no question that vinyl produces 100-times more distortion than digital, but that does not mean digital is 100-times more accurate and transparent than vinyl. This is the problem.
Suppose digital has 0.01% distortion and vinyl has 1.00% distortion. It's clear that vinyl has 100-times more distortion than digital. However, vinyl is still 99.00% accurate while digital is 99.99% accurate. There is very little difference between 99.00% and 99.99%. It's blatantly obvious that digital is not 100-times more accurate than vinyl. No, it's only 1.01-times more accurate than vinyl, which is almost insignificant.
