Well, the plinth on a Rega is basically the majority of the turntable. My guess is that it's a combination of the plinth, the main bearing and the platter. In other words, it's the Rega turntable.
I have always thought that there must be something seriously wrong with any turntable that doesn't sound good when placed on a massive, non-resonant turntable stand. I would recommend trading in your Rega turntable on a VPI such as the Prime. Two of my friends own Prime turntables and they sound great with plenty of bass. Why waste any more time wondering "where did all the bass go" and buy yourself a turntable that will let you think only about how great the music sounds?
Good luck,
John Elison
