As with others, I have a variety of Brendel's playing, from Vox (poor) pressings from the later 50's up to 2 beautiful Mozart solo piano CDs on Philips. Some said Philips recordings were not considered audiophile, but to my ears, in spite of multi miking issues at times, they really had beautiful sonics and performances.
You shared an interesting incident, and stuff happens to some of us if you are fortunate and pay attention.
One memory of mine is of Count Basie and his orchestra, 75th BD celebration at a restored and refurbished theater in KC MO. Guests were invited by a group of music lovers including my boss at the time. They were Marian McPartland and Sarah Vaughn, who gave stunning performances along with the Count and his men.
I had the sound engineer make a cassette tape on TDK Metal I think, but lost it somewhere in my moves. Poor mistake.
No pics (no cell phones) in the 70's.
