RE: target arm/cartridge resonance when playing 78s?

What arm/cartridge resonance frequency would you like?

The cartridge weighs 6.8-grams and mounting hardware weighs about 1-gram for a total of 7.8-grams. This provides an arm/cartridge resonance frequency of 14.25-Hz in a 12-gram Technics tonearm when using compliance of 6.3 x 10 -6 cm/dyne.

If you want an arm/cartridge resonance frequency higher than 14.25-Hz you need a lower effective mass tonearm. On the other hand, if you want an arm/cartridge resonance frequency of 10-Hz, you would need tonearm effective mass of 32.4-grams. For a 12-Hz arm/cartridge resonance frequency you would need a 20.1-gram effective mass tonearm.

Best regards,
John Elison
