RE: Auralex isolation platforms

I have time to fool around so I bought a marble table from a little old lady for $40, had a local water-jet shop cut it into slabs ($50), set one on these exact duplicates of Mapleshade isolation blocks bought from the real scientific folks who manufacture vibration isolators ($10). It's dead as a doornail, acoustically speaking! (The lower strip in front is not connected, it just for looks- hides the Smurfy feet.) I had a slab left over I sold for $40 to a guy for his pastry baking, to defray costs.

Home Depot will cut any wood you buy from their store to any size, with a pretty reasonable tolerance (say +/- 1/8" to a given dimension, better when matching piece-to-piece). I don't see any reason it wouldn't work for your platform to put an extra MDF slab on top.
