Yes, you need antiskating to keep your stylus/cantilever straight and true with a spinning record. Using proper antiskating, your cartridge's tracking performance should be adequate at 1.5-grams VTF. It is not a good idea to exceed the recommended maximum VTF. This is the purpose of antiskating.
