That was especially true for my VPI/Denon DP-75 since the hole is drilled through seven layers of laminated steel plates about 1" thick and would take a machine shop to modify.
I am working on modifying a vintage JVC DD table now. To mount my sweet, old Stax arm I have to "move the hole" (I love that phrase...). I found a superb epoxy filler to build up in the hole that will allow redrilling it (with significant overlap f the old/new holes, if y'all see what I'm sayin') - J-B Weld "KwikWood Epoxy" - it builds to any reasonable thickness and has the amazing strength of J-B Weld, stuff you can bet your life on.
