I have the weird, almost TOTALLY IRRELEVANT opportunity to observe the subtle sonic differences between a couple normal stereo LP's and the same album issued in the most common SQ/QS quad format. Almost identical sound quality seems to prevail, although I note that some of the Quad LP's seem to have more surface noise. This is not a controlled test by any means because the albums are 30+ years old and have all been used and abused possibly by many different owners through the years. I am keeping the stereo copies and the Quads will be packed off to my local EllPeeHut, adding to my massive store credit there, I suppose.
Listening now to Stanley Turrentine "Don't Mess With Mr. T" [CTI-6030 / CTSQ6030- 1973]the stereo image seems a tad more solid, the overall coherence (PRAT) a little better in the stereo copy. Maybe... the difference is tiny. Great album, BTW.
