No, $1.99 used to be the bogey!

I built my collection by living, literally, across the street from a record store in 1970. The proprietor was an affable drunk who saved me all the cutouts and promo copies (of progressive rock) that he could scarf up from his wholesaler. I remember getting an radio station promo copy of "Workingman's Dead" about 2 days before its US release for $1.99 and feeling like King S*it -- that was his the standard price for cutouts and culls, praise ol' Roy!
