RE:Wouldn't be a "hobby" then, anymore...

I have been selling a load of records lately (at one of those snobby shops you mention) and you might not get that trip to Europe unless you have a basement full of 50-60's jazz albums. The buying prices are, of course, much less than the $8.99 stickers in the bins these days!

Try to be generous about the millennials having turntables. I fixed and assembled 4 record playing systems for young professional friends (1 for my daughter, even) in the past year. They are something of a "fashion accessory" its true. But 2 of the 4 kids actively listen to vinyl (not my daughter!) -- they buy and sell records, and have real fun with their hi-fi's, so batting .500. They're not all phonies and you can't deny a kid the chance to hustle and make a few bucks. If an LP gets "upcycled" to my nice clean convenient EllPeeHut and I buy it with the store-credit I have there, it seems like a workable, natural process.

As far as money, my millennial kids both work hard as hell and rake in, between them, around a quarter mill a year doing work similar to what I did at age 30. They eat $9.00 corned beef sandwiches and think it's a cheap lunch, no kidding. It's the same weird age-thing makes me shout out loud in the grocery store "$4.99 for this!? That's INSANE!!" So I used to sell a few records for 1 buck each and buy one for $3- now I can sell for $3 / buy for $9 -- it's still all good.
