Because of its age, your changer must be a rim drive unit in which a small idler wheel underneath the platter transmits the rotation from the motor shaft to the platter. In a 40 year old TT it's likely that the rubber idler wheel has dried out and hardened and is slipping under the load of more than four records. Lift off the platter and check the idler wheel.
Alternatively, somebody may have tried to oil the motor and got oil on the shaft or idler wheel causing it to slip.
Or, your motor simply doesn't have enough torque to spin more than four.
