lol! It depends on where that noise level lies with respect to the music levels, ie what is the achieved signal to noise in the capture in question.

It might become a problem is if you ever had a situation, for whatever reason, where the gain on the Tascam had to be so high it brought that noise up out of the vinyl system noise floor and into the music.

I didn't see where the author tried to relate the signal level to some reference. Without that information it's impossible to know for sure where the noise lies with respect to typical vinyl system noise.

If I had to guess...It's probably so low it would be inaudible most of the time.

It is so disappointing to me since on paper this is a very nice design for the amount of money they sell them for. They use decent quality electronics such as the converters, have achieved a nice sounding preamps per reviews, the chassis feels sturdy, etc.

If it weren't for this one littel noise issue he UH-7000 suddenly starts to look very competitive with the performance of converters costing 3X as much such as the Mytek Stereo 192 ADC which doesn't even have nice mic preamps like the Tascam or a built in DAC for that matter.

It's probably a great unit for the money but it is frustrating from the standpoint that they were apparently very close to it being f'n amazing. Based on the perception the fix wouldn't have cost much for Tascam to implement It is baffling to me as to why they wouldn't have fixed the problem, jacked up the price of the unit a bit to compensate and come into the market sounding just as good at 1/3 the cost. Everyone would have wanted one.
