RE: Determining a recordings mastering history....

Recently I bought two Pablo recordings from 1980 and 1981, Count Basie and Milt Jackson. To me, 1980 was the beginning of the digital age. Digital appears on the covers of both. They are excellent recordings. I also have a 1982 Pablo of Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli (Skol). There is no mention of digital on it's cover. Perhaps we vinylophiles had already began to doubt digital by that time??

Not long ago, Michael Fremer initiated a Kickstarter to fund comparing an all analogue recording to a digitally mastered lp. It failed to generate sufficient support.

I would like to hear the comparison. Until that is available, we can only speculate. It must be the same music recorded in both analogue and digital from start to finish. Otherwise there are too many variables.
