In this case I'd be concerned about extra, unnecessary domain conversions.
I believe that the more I understand about the files history the more likely I'd end up with the version that makes sense for me.
For example if this recording was all digitally mastered then reconverted to analog for the album then I ripped it to digital for convenient playback from my media server then exactly how many domain conversions must the signal have suffered through by the time it hits my ears?
You can argue all you want about how it is technically possible to have a recording which has gone through several generations of domain conversions and still outperform a poor quality recording which is still in it's original form. That is beside the point.
