Get a working one for almost no money, under $100 if you're patient. Recap it - either look at the schematic on the bottom or order one of several recapping kits people have put together. The job should take 20 minutes, tops. Polish or replace the awful RCAs. Its m/m phono section will probably surprise you, especially if you're coming from something really good. Point of diminishing returns and all that.

It's the universal replacement: phono and line preamp (both good and very quiet), kinda crummy 15-watt power amp, and an FM section with Henry's actually pretty decent RF section. Small, light, no ventilation needed - all good.
