I can see why some people like the sonics, but I'm not sure about the trade offs. The speed stability with silk thread is erratic, but I can probably fix that. I'm not loosing anything at all with the stock clear VPI belt on speed stability with my HW19. So much for the theory that rubber belts are unstable.

Sound wise the whole frequency range shifts towards more emphasis on upper mid range and highs. The is a certain level of apparent clarity that results that is appealing. A less dark sound. However, lowest bass, which was good before, is completely gone with #4 silk thread. I can probably lower the VTA, but not enough to get it all the bass back and recover the impact. Not sure if this thread drive is worthwhile.

Has anyone tried the newer black VPI belt versus the older clear one? Any other material? I have a black belt and will give it a try.
